Adam McDonald Spends Semester in Off-Campus Study Program with Dordt College

2012 Feb 20

Adam McDonald of Troy, Ill., is spending the semester on the Washington Journalism program Washington, D.C. McDonald is a Dordt College junior majoring in communication.

Dordt College wants its students to understand global and cross-cultural issues, and there is no better way to learn than to be immersed in another culture.

When students spend time in a culture other than their own, they are able to see how they can contribute to a global society. "When you live in another culture, you learn more about yourself than you do about that culture – about who you are and how you've been shaped by your culture," said Linda Van Wyk, coordinator of international students and off-campus programs at Dordt College.

This semester, 30 Dordt students have chosen to participate in semester-long off-campus and study abroad programs. They're living, studying, and working or interning in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C. as well as in the Netherlands, Costa Rica, the Middle East, New Zealand, Spain, and Italy.

Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a Christian liberal arts and sciences college rooted in the Reformed tradition. U.S. News & World Report, Forbes.com, Washington Monthly, and Princeton Review all list Dordt on their best colleges lists. To learn more about Dordt College, visit www.dordt.edu.
