Bethany Van Eps represented Dordt College at the American College Theater Festival

Bethany Van Eps of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, competed at the American College Theater Festival Region 5 (ACTF5) representing Dordt College in the Irene Ryan Scholarship competition. Van Eps is a senior majoring in Business Admin with an emphasis in International. She also has minors in Communication Studies and French.

Van Eps was a Partner for the Irene Ryan acting competition. Nominees prepare a scene and a monologue with their partner for the first round of auditions, which includes about 360 Irene Ryan nominees. Semi-finals include 64 nominees and the final round includes 16 nominees. Then only one moves on to the Kennedy Center for the national competition.

Van Eps was one of two pairs to move on to the semi-final round. The last time Dordt had students proceed to the semi-finals was seven years ago.

ACTF5 is a full week of competitions, workshops, and performances hosted in Des Moines this year. Region 5 includes all schools from North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, and Kansas. Students from the graduate and undergraduate level compete in the Irene Ryan acting competition, the Design Expo, original playwriting, Stage Crew Showdown, and more.
