Cooper Dykstra will spend spring semester in off-campus study program with Dordt College

2013 Dec 10

Cooper Dykstra of New Holland, South Dakota, will spend next semester on the SPICE program in the Netherlands. Dykstra is a Dordt College junior majoring in health and human performance with an emphasis in exercise science. He also has a minor in biomedical sciences.

This semester, 30 Dordt students have chosen to participate in semester-long off-campus and study abroad programs. They’re living, studying, and interning in Chicago, Belize, Spain, and the Netherlands.

Dordt College wants its students to understand global and cross-cultural issues, and there is no better way to learn than to be immersed in another culture.

When students spend time in a culture other than their own, they are able to see how they can contribute to a global society. “When you live in another culture, you learn more about yourself than you do about that culture—about who you are and how you’ve been shaped by your culture,” said Linda Schroedermeier, coordinator of international students and off-campus programs at Dordt College.

Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a comprehensive Christian college rooted in the Reformed tradition. U.S. News & World Report, Forbes.com, Washington Monthly, and Princeton Review all list Dordt on their best colleges lists. To learn more about Dordt College, visit www.dordt.edu.
