Derek Friend tours with Dordt College instrumental groups

Derek Friend of Sioux Center, Iowa, is embarking on a winter instrumental tour with Dordt College during the school's winter break. He is a freshman majoring in computer science with an emphasis in systems administration. He also has a minor in applied statistics. Friend plays viola with the college's Chamber Orchestra.

Touring through Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa, the Jazz Band and Chamber Orchestra are directed by 2013-14 visiting conductor Yurii Henriques. Freewill donations received will help defray tour expenses.

Approximately 300 U.S. and international students participate in the Dordt College music program, which offers opportunities to perform in any of four choral groups, two orchestras, and three bands. Music scholarships are available to qualified students.
