Dordt College Student Jonathan Posthuma Recognized for Excellence in Theater

2012 Jan 6

Jonathan Posthuma of Brandon, Wisc., has been chosen to participate in the Region V Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF). Posthuma is a senior majoring in secondary education and choral/instrumental music. He also has a minor in the Kuyper Scholars Program.

Posthuma is one of four Dordt students who will be performing a scene from the recent production of Tennessee Williams' classic Glass Menagerie. He also received special recognition and will be presenting his work for music composition.

The Dordt College theater program has a history of being recognized by KCACTF. "In the past four years we have had six shows 'held' for consideration, and three shows have been selected to compete," said Ryan Donahoe, technical director and instructor for Dordt College's theater arts department. "Dordt has certainly made a name for itself at the festival as we continue to be recognized for the amazing theatre work that our students produce."

The KCACTF showcases the finest of each region's entered productions and offers a variety of activities, including workshops, symposia, and regional-level award programs. Since its inception in 1969, KCACTF has given more than 400,000 college theater students the opportunity to have their work critiqued by judges and receive help to improve their dramatic skills.

Dordt's active theater program serves the community with two fully mounted main stage shows each year, as well as numerous smaller student-directed or classroom-based projects. The program will have two openings for a faculty member and technical director in fall of 2012. To learn more about theater at Dordt College, visit www.dordt.edu/arts/theatre.
