Dordt College Student Nathan Scheuers Recognized for Excellence in Theater

2012 Jan 6

Nathan Scheuers of Fox Lake, Wisc., has been chosen to participate in the Region V Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF). Scheuers is a senior majoring in theatre arts with an emphasis in acting and directing. He also has a minor in communication with an emphasis in digital media production.

Scheuers will be one of seven Dordt students participating in the Irene Ryan acting competition.

The Dordt College theater program has a history of being recognized by KCACTF. "In the past four years we have had six shows 'held' for consideration, and three shows have been selected to compete," said Ryan Donahoe, technical director and instructor for Dordt College's theater arts department. "Dordt has certainly made a name for itself at the festival as we continue to be recognized for the amazing theatre work that our students produce."

The KCACTF showcases the finest of each region's entered productions and offers a variety of activities, including workshops, symposia, and regional-level award programs. Since its inception in 1969, KCACTF has given more than 400,000 college theater students the opportunity to have their work critiqued by judges and receive help to improve their dramatic skills.

Dordt's active theater program serves the community with two fully mounted main stage shows each year, as well as numerous smaller student-directed or classroom-based projects. The program will have two openings for a faculty member and technical director in fall of 2012. To learn more about theater at Dordt College, visit www.dordt.edu/arts/theatre.
