Dordt College Student Rachel Kooiman Earns High Honors at NATS Competition

Rachel Kooiman of Doon, Iowa, is one of five Dordt College vocal students who went on to the finalist round-the highest honor-of the Lewis and Clark Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competition. Kooiman proceeded to the finals in the Art Song and the Music Theatre categories. She is a junior majoring in secondary education and music with an emphasis in choral music education.

The competition was held at the end of April at Western Iowa Technical College in Sioux City, Iowa, and included teachers and students from Fort Dodge, Storm Lake, Sioux City, and Sioux Center.

Dordt College has approximately 300 U.S. and international students who participate in the music program, with opportunities to perform in four choral groups, two orchestras, and three bands. Music scholarships are available to qualified students.
