Eckels To Attend Dordt College

Dylan Eckels, a senior at West Hancock High School (Iowa), has announced his intention to attend Dordt College and join the Defender basketball program.

Eckels is a 6-1, 175 pound senior that helped West Hancock to a three straight Class 1A State Tournaments and a third place finish in 2016. In 2017 he averaged 17.5 points per game with 7.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists. He earned third-team all-state honors and first team all-conference and all-district honors. He was also chosen to compete in the 2017 IBCA All-Star game and was named to the Mason City Globe-Gazette All-Area Team. A multi-sport athlete, Eckels claimed first-team all-district football honors twice and was a second-team all-state selection at defensive back in 2016.

"We are pleased Dylan has decided to attend Dordt College and to be part of our program. Dylan has been part of a multiple teams at West Hancock under coach Brian Peterson that have competed in the state tournament. We are counting on Dylan to provide depth at the guard and wing positions for us. We look forward to watching Dylan progress during his four years at Dordt," said Dordt College basketball coach Ross Douma.

Dylan is the son of Darin and Jackie Eckels of Britt, Iowa.

Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a comprehensive Christian college rooted in the Reformed tradition. The Defender athletic program is a part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC).

U.S. News & World Report, Money Magazine, Forbes.com, Washington Monthly, and Princeton Review all list Dordt on their best colleges lists. Dordt is home to approximately 1,500 students.
