Emily Tuuk plan and lead Dordt College's freshmen orientation week

Emily Tuuk of Lansing, Illinois, took a leadership role with 70 other students during Dordt College's Week Of Welcome (WOW), freshman orientation. She served as an Uber leader. Tuuk is a senior majoring in Social Work. She also has minors in Sociology and Psychology.

The WOW leaders help move in the freshman and make their transition to college easier and more welcoming. A variety of events were held, including an ice cream social, Freshman Olympics, and the Freshman Talent Show.

WOW leaders are sophomores, juniors, and seniors. WOW leaders help first-year student during the first week and throughout the first semester, planning events to help make the transition to college a little bit smoother and a lot more fun.

There are several roles that students play during WOW week:

  • WOW coordinator. Plans and oversees all WOW activities for the year.
  • WOW intern. Shadows and assists the WOW coordinator and will take over as coordinator next year.
  • Uber leaders. Directs a select group of WOW leaders.
  • WOW leaders. Works directly with the first year students.
