Two Softball Players Claim Scholar-Athlete Honors

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced Wednesday that 402 softball student-athletes have been named 2015 Daktronics-NAIA Softball Scholar-Athletes. Dordt College has two players on the list.

Selena Rinehart (Junior; Ames, Iowa) and Jordan Harmelink (Junior; Sioux Falls, South Dakota) are first-time honorees for the Defenders. Rinehart appeared in 34 games, mostly as a pinch runner, and scored seven runs and stole five bases. Harmelink started 36 games and batted .268 this year with 31 hits, 21 runs scored and stole five bases. Rinehart is studying Education while Harmelink is a Business Administration major.

In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status.
